Behind Bars in Brooklyn
AdaptAbility is the brainchild of Sandra Alfonzo, the owner of Behind Bars in Brooklyn, an accessories and bicycle repair store established in Brooklyn, NY in 2014.
Behind Bars in Brooklyn is using all their resources to make AdaptAbility a community program, hoping one day it will spread to every state and then, the world. At Behind Bars in Brooklyn, we raise money, do fittings of the adaptive bicycle before and after, help with the customization of the adaptive bicycle. Then, we assemble and deliver the Adaptive bicycle free of charge.
Give us the need. We will find the concept. Our products are designed for mobility, therapy, recreation, fun, and freedom!
Working with medical professionals, therapists, and families, each Freedom Concepts model is thoughtfully designed to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Angelman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, and visual impairment. Any bike can be further customized and adjusted to the exact specifications and unique requirements of the rider, ensuring that each Freedom Concepts bike is a perfect fit.
“The cycle of mobility — it’s more than a tagline. It’s the idea that every one of us at Freedom Concepts is dedicated to. Creating handcrafted products with pride, quality, and ingenuity, with the goal of providing therapy, recreation, fun, and most of all, freedom.”
IOBY mobilizes neighbors who have good ideas to become powerful citizen leaders who plan, fund and make positive change in their own neighborhoods. In their own words, “we are creating a future in which our neighborhoods are shaped by the powerful good ideas of our own neighbors. We believe that local is best, small is big, inclusivity is key. We are whole people who benefit from nurturing our individual qualities.”
